In 2016, IMBEWU stays true to its core values :

Creation of IMBEWU in the New Brighton Township in Port Elisabeth. IMBEWU’s energy reaches Switzerland the same year. The first activities focused on the areas of schooling and nutrition.
The first container is installed, others are to follow. These provide a space for a canteen and thus a warm meal can be made available to all of the children in the various schools.
Beginning of the partnership with Roger Federer and his foundation. The support of the renowned ambassador enables 60 children to be individually sponsored as part of schooling project Imfundo Sis Phiwo.
Thanks to the generous involvement of the Dubois and Jeanneret families, and in memory of the daughters Floriane and Celine, a canteen (Flo container) and a vegetable garden are created.
Launch of the partnership with United through Sport (Umzingisi) and the projects Beyond the Game and SIYAKHLA! A manual on development through sport is also created.
Players and staff from the Swiss football team visit the IMBEWU projects during the World Cup. Back in Switzerland, IMBEWU is a guest at the Paleo Festival. More than 60 volunteers roll up their sleeves during the 6 day event.
Thabo Sefolosha and IMBEWU join forces and launch an education through sport project in Mamelodi-East Township, the birthplace of the pro basketball player’s father. Thus, Thabo becomes IMBEWU’s ambassador and the initiator of a project still very much alive in 2016.
To commemorate the first free elections in South Africa and discussed the theme of racial discrimination, IMBEWU and Pro Juventute Arc jurassien organized the event 20 Years of Freedom with 90 students from the Jean-Piaget high school in Neuchâtel, Switzerland.
IMBEWU’s new visual identity is finalized with a new stronger and contemporary logo. The logo contains three brighter colours than before with three basic geometric forms. These new elements present a dynamic visual image which will live and evolve over time.
Following sport, IMBEWU starts using art as a tool for education and the communication of values. The ACADEMY OF CREATIVITY project is set up with a South African partner organization, Masifunde. The project offers activities around singing, drama and the visual arts to the children and teenagers of Walmer Township in Port Elisabeth.
SOUNDS OF PEACE is a project that unites both young people from Switzerland and South Africa for a musical and cultural exchange. Over the course of a week, the thirty participants visit the Neuchatel region and participate in workshops organized around three themes: music, culture and diversity. The project closes with a concert of Swiss and South African music to a full hall.
